ART + FOLDABLE ... NOTE: This foldable was meant to be an "accordion" book, but since I wanted to put these on the bulletin board, I glued the folds on the books so the middle would not fall out while these were displayed on the wall.

This little foldable book (below) has a high level of scaffolding for English learners with low English proficiency or struggling readers.
Students add illustrations & story words to complete the pages.

Here are versions of this accordion book with different levels of scaffolding, depending on what your students need to be successful:

Just copy & paste these photos in a word document and enlarge / reduce to the size you want.
Then, print. Cut out pieces and have students use as patterns for tracing their own pieces on construction paper.

ART + WRITING (retelling / summarizing)
For this roll-a-story, English learners with intermediate English proficiency made their scarecrow with paper and crayons. Then, students wrote a summary or retelling of the story. Glue their stories on a piece of construction paper and glue to the scarecrow so it looks like he's holding the story. Gently roll the story from the bottom for 3D interest on the bulletin board.

One morning, a few days before Halloween, Mrs. McMurphy wakes up to find a large pumpkin by her front door. "My mouth is here. I speak to you. When my teeth are here, I'll eat you!" it says with a mischievous grin. Unafraid, Mrs. mcMurphy politely places the threatening squash outside. But, day after day the pumpkin returns to make good on its promise, forcing her to try many different ways to get rid of it.
