Minerva Louise is a goofy, lovable hen who loves the white farmhouse with the red curtains from afar. So one day she sets off to get a closer look. What wonders she finds inside!

Minerva Louise, the lovable and inquisitive hen notices something different about the house with the red curtains. There are so many new things around--like that baby carriage, for example, which she takes to be a fancy new wheelbarrow. With typical feather-headed flair, Minerva Louise goes through the house figuring out what each new thing is. She concludes that a diaper bag is a cozy nest and--aha!--a crib is a comfy rabbit hutch. There must be a new
in the family! Readers will delight in discovering that the birdbrain is close to the right answer...but not quite.

The air is warm, the fields are full of flowers, and the farmers are decked out in pretty dresses and fancy bonnets. But something strange is happening around the barnhard. There are eggs on fence posts, under picnic tables, and in lots of other places. What hen would do that? And they are not like any eggs Minerva Louise has seen before. These are green and purple, blue and pink, striped and spotted. What is going on?
Minerva Louise is off on another adventure--this time on wheels! With the wind in her feathers, the intrepid birdbrain goes on a joyride in the back of the farm's red truck. And what a lot there is to see! In her usual fashion, she mistakes golfers for farmers digging and sees a construction site as a playground for trucks. Readers will want to join in the fun as the endearing Minerva Louise takes her show on the road.
The fair has come to town and everyone--including Minerva Louise, that curious and loveable hen--wants to go. It doesn't matter that she has never been to a fair before. She thinks it is a rather remarkable farm. There are twinkling stars on everything. The horses going up and down and round and round trheir corral look almost too beautiful to be real! Tired out from her wanderings around this splendid place, she finds a nice nesting box for a snooze. Little does she know that it is in the judging tent. So Minerva Louise is in just the right spot when the prizes are handed out.
There's something strange going on today. The pumpkins are making funny faces. The children are wearing sheets and pointy hats. Wait a minute. At the farmhouse they're getting treats. Sweet treats! Whatever's going on, Minerva Louise needs to get to the front of that line! Loveable, muddleheaded Minerva is as fearless--and clueless--as ever as she delights in Halloween hijinks for the very first time.
What is that jolly guy in the red suit doing on the roof? wonders Minerva Louise one snowy evening. It looks like he's brought along a bunch of fancy goats. Could it be a rooftop party? When the mysterious visitor disappears down the chimney, Minerva follows. Now what's that big tree doing inside? And who does this red-hat guy think he is, unpacking his stuff and eating the farmer's cookies? There's definitely something funny going on.
